I didn't know that. Let's be honest and engage our brains here for a few minutes. Russia didn't invade Ukraine because it has "no strategic value" and the west wouldn't be involved if Ukraine had "no strategic value."

Russia had the additional risk of the Ukraine joining the EU and a lot of close/familial ties between the Russian and Ukrainian populations. If you look at all the former Eastern Bloc countries that have joined the EU, they've all had explosive economic growth and have some of the highest GDP/Capitia figures in the world. If Ukraine joined the EU and also experienced that explosive economic growth, that could lead to another revolution in Russia. I suspect that was Putin's greatest motive for invading the Ukraine. On a certain level he may have already accomplished that goal, since the devastation from this war will set the Ukraine back decades as far their economy is concerned.
