I have kenwood 709s and 4 memphis ms 62s, accompanied with 2 timpano 12s. I beleive the wattage of the head unit is 20w/channel, the speakers are rated for 65 so I was looking into a kenwood amp 50w/4 channels.

How much louder will they get? will it be a very noticable difference and play louder clearer?

Good question!
Your radio has a built-in amp. However, is doesn't have the filtering and adjustability as an amp. That's why you will see a 20x4 amp being the same size as your entire radio. They supply the same power, but the amp supplies it better and cleaner.

It is always good to supply a speaker the power they are designed to handle. I have found that they sound much better. So, you will notice an extreme difference in sound.

Did you know, you will also notice an extremely better sound quality if you use at least a 12 gauge power wire for your aftermarket radio? Think about it... Your radio is putting our 80 watts. What size wire is required for an 80 watt amp? They require at least a 12g power wire. Your factory power wire is probably a 16g or 18g wire. Also, with the proper wire size, you will notice your radio will be running much cooler, and your CD's won't be smoking hot.

I have my 6.5s running on a separate amp and I love the sound. They will get as loud as your amplifier allows, using your head unit to control the volume. My sound is very clear.

I'd probably go for an amp of 75-100wpc for the 6.5s.

They will get louder and sound better certainly, but while you're at it, throw some silicone baffles in there to seal the speaker to the mounting surface and directs the sound to the grille in your door panel rather than bouncing around between the door and the door panel (sold on Amazon for like $10)

Next pick up a pack of Amazon Basics sound deadener (you don't need any expensive **** like Dynamat or Resonix for a basic install like that) for like $15 and out 5 of the panels on each door and use the leftovers on the inside if the door panel.

With both of these installed the bass will be fuller and more articulate, and you won't have as much distortion from the panels flexing. Only like $25-30 for the baffles and deadener together and is well worth it.

I definitely prefer an amp over head unit power. Yeah 75-100 watts per channel gives a lot of added clean headroom a head unit can’t do, it’s worth it in my opinion.

80 watts @ 14.2 VDC is 5.6 amps. 16 gage wire is more than adequate.
