They are talking heads and have been so for decades. When there were only 3 major networks, they all ran the same news and no one was all that worried about ratings. They tended to hold their core audience. And then 24/7 "news" channels started popping up...

CNN was the first 24/7 news back in the 80s. You probably had to have satellite to get it back then. Most over the air stations went off at midnight.

It really started to sprout up after columbine shootings. The news became a cash grab and a drama filled live movie. The OJ chase and trial was spectacular.

That’s exactly what I’m saying. Fox News screwed themselves by bribing republicans expecting that it would give them power, but it actually gave the Republicans the power. Are you saying that Fox News is a legitimate news source? And the IRS is the biggest weapon in the government arsenal

What power did it give the Republicans? Are you saying Fox's political stance has to do with the gov't telling them what to disseminate? If so, why doesn't the gov't tell ALL networks what to do, and make them ALL be pro-Republican?

You presented a theory that gov't is controlling media, yet talk about media controlling government with lobbying/donations/board positions, and completely ignore the total imbalance between Republican-leaning versus Democrat-leaning news outlets.

Yes. That is why I have been calling it infotainment in so many threads. They are not interested in news. Just like Trump, all they care about is the ratings grab.
