How did they navigate the balloon? We should be reverse engineering the propulsion system/s when they recover all the pieces.

Kind of funny all the panic over the spying though. I guess most Americans haven't heard of things like the U2 or the SR-71 blackbird, or satellites, Artemis, the internet, feet on the ground.
The goose and the gander, huh?
yea, so what? I want my country ahead of its enemies and I want them blowing up shit they send into our air space.

We were flying U2 spy planes at 70,000 ft in 1956. China sent a weather balloon that is at the mercy of the wind and is visible from the ground.

When the order was given, it was smoked from 1/2 mile away with a button push. I think we are ahead of the enemy if that is their big play.

I'm sure that's what it is. Couldn't be you constantly thinking you know how I feel, what I think or what I mean. Damn you're stupid.
Word are used to express how you think, how you feel, what you mean, even if you don't know it.
And if you DON'T know that by your age, it might explain a lot about your posts.

It might at the mercy of the wind, but there may have been some sort of propulsion or guidance system. Nevertheless, it's all a rather mute point with modern spy satellites. There's a reason we mothballed the SR71 & U2.

I do wonder why we wasted a missile on the balloon. F22s are supposed to have 20mm cannons. We used our most advanced fighter and it's most advanced weapon to take a balloon.

Maybe if it WAS some type of EMP unit? Give the pilot ample time to eject as his plane falls from the sky?

I think I'm more impressed with the construction than anything. There look to be almost no seams in that thing. It's like it's a latex inflatable and not a sewn-panel balloon.
