I didn't say it was enough, but you are trying to paint it as an inconsequential number. And, it;s actually more than 12%:
| Wind | 380 | 9.2% |
| Hydropower | 260 | 6.3% |
| Solar (total) | 115 | 2.8% |
It's almost 1/5 of the production of electricity.
If 12% is nothing, then immediately reduce your car's gas consumption by 12%. Immediately reduce your electric use by 12%.
Then compare that to a 1/2% reduction.
I know math isn't your strong suit, but use these examples:
100 gallons of gas used a week would drop to 88 gallons (250 miles less) OR to 99.5 gallons (10 miles less).
Running your refrigerator 100 hours a week would drop to 88 hours (12 extra hours of defrost) or 99.5 hours (30 minutes of extra defrost).
Now try 20%:
100 gallons drops to 80. 400 miles less driving.
100 hours of refrigeration becomes 80. 20 extra hours of defrost.
Inconsequential?
Tell us again how 12% of renewable energy means nothing to the grid, but a loss of .5% would cripple it.
