How difficult is it to build a sub?

If you have some skill and tools not bad. I started just doing surround replacement on old subs. Then recones... then I went to what you see me doing with what you see.

Very Nice!! I myself would like to learn to rebuild subs. I have a few sitting that need to take place at that. Ill have to figure out what and where to get parts to make it happen and get those in. Ill deff try it for sure.

Where do you get your rebuild kits?

Depends on what I am doing. I have manufacture that I have make parts for me. Just put in a order for 100 12" cones, baskets, rings and dustcaps. I have some buddies in the business that sell me parts too.

george is a good guy. If you are gonna build subs in any type of quantity, cut the middle men out. It will be impossible to make money if you don’t. Get the coils direct, frames from China, if you don’t have machining capability motors can be designed and sent to a build house in China etc. 400 oz style motor fully assembled ready to go will cost you about $88 shipped, that’s what I paid each last time. Ti frames $25-$35 shipped etc . Cones $10-$20 each max shipped. The negative to this is the amount of money you have to spend upfront as they won’t entertain small orders. The good news is for what you’ll pay for each part the savings is huge.

I agree. I have the ability to buy big upfront. Warehouse to inventory, and I even have a cnc mill that I may finish getting together before I die with a 4th axes on it. I just dont have the time I need to build the motors right now. I did get everything but coils and motors coming for 100 12's. I went raw on baskets because we do custom paint on guns at my gun shop..... people love custom options. same sub in 20 color options.

For the prices charged, it’s pointless machining top and bottom plates, trust me . Only way that is happening is if someone has deep pockets then I’ll think about it . The coils you can get from precision econo wind in Florida. The setup fee for small batches is $150 usually, then the price of each coil. They can make the coils any way you wish! They have a pretty darn fast turn around, at least I’ve been lucky lol.
