There's a study from the CDC or FDA one from about ~2015 where they proved these type of cloth masks don't do anything to stop the flu. The holes in most of these masks are significantly larger than the virus. Wearing a mask all day is bad for you; you can suffer from things like hypoxia, from breathing in your own waste breath and from the restriction of air flow into the lungs, and the masks can also build bacteria where they get wet (from moisture in breath), which can cause bacteria related illnesses in people forced to wear them all day.
Welcome to the mask cult. Starting to look like one of these parties:

Can surgical masks protect you from getting the flu?
Australia has just suffered a severe flu season, with 299,211 laboratory-confirmed cases, at last count, and 662 deaths. This might be a sign of what's to come for the UK and US as the virus spreads to the northern hemisphere.
"Basically, there is no strong evidence to support well people wearing surgical masks in public. Or as the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention put it: "No recommendation can be made at this time for mask use in the community by asymptomatic persons, including those at high risk for complications, to prevent exposure to influenza viruses." "
