Today I had a new pioneer head unit, 4 pioneer speakers to replace the stock door speakers, and a 13 inch screen installed in my 2002 Chevy Suburban at a local shop.  I picked my vehicle and was checking my new equipment and noticed that my rear driver side door speaker was not working.  I brought it to the attention of the shop and they checked the speaker and told me that the factory amplifier was bad, and that was causing the speaker to not work.  They gave me three options:

1. I could have them run a "9 wire" directly from the speakers to the head unit which would in turn disable my factory sub and decrease my sound quality

2. I could get another factory amp somehow and they would install it for me.  I don't know how to find this or where to even begin to look.

3. I could let them install a 5 channel aftermarket amp and a 8 or 10" sub in a cabinet for which they would charge me $600.

*disclaimer* - I dont know what a "9 wire" is.  I am only repeating what the installer said to me.

Also, I am posting this thread for some fact checking with the hopes that someone will tell me if the diagnosis sounds legitimate.  I know very little about car audio outside what sounds good to me and I want to make sure that I am not being taken for a ride.  I don't have any issues spending good money for good work or to fix a legitimate problem.  Thanks in advance everyone.

Ask them how do they know its bad? See what they say then ask them did they even check the AC voltage coming out of the channel just tell them because it was working fine before the install so either you guys messed it up and owe me a factory amp or its still good and something else is the issue....

Honestly I’m not sure if it was working or not. The speakers were crackling so bad I can’t honestly say if it was working. The technician did say that the channel was giving signal but  and that the speaker was working so it must be an interruption in between which made him think it is the factory amp causing the issue.

so he just thought it doesnt work. He never really checked if the amplifier channel was bad or not. I'd have check the amp channels to see if its actually outputting any kind of voltage.  If it is, then its their wiring job thats messed up. If it doesn't then its the amp. Simple.

Sounds like their trying to bilk you outta more $$
yeah they could have just suggested a 5 channel amp and reuse the factory sub and save costs as a solution but nope always about making their money.

its not the best performing route but its nice to give the consumer actual options especially if they were satisfied with the factory sub, more power to the factory sub would give a bit of improvement as well.

Nice, well I think they will blow away anything you have running on your puter for sure. I've had good luck with the NVX components, hard to beat...

I have a 2001 Nissan Sentra GXE and I've never found one. The loc is the next best option
