So ik a lot of people like super loud, or try want the best possible sound quality so the say only run rears, and all that crap, which honestly is great, if you have like 4 or more cars. For me I'm sure there's some on here but haven't done a full check, I'm a guy that likes quality but this is my daily, I take ppl in quite often, so what can we do to build the best sq, for the most affordable, without using too much space? Well this is my build and I'm hoping to find out

What I had

So my last car I ran a bunch of set ups, started with JL 12w0v2's then went to 10w3v3's which is where I found a love for 10" subs. I then had the ability to try 10" JBL GTO's and 12" w1v2's, also have heard RF prim 500/1 amps RF power 500/1bd amp JBL gto 600.2 amp (clean amps for the price) and JL slash amps ending on a JL HD 750/1 with 2 10w6v3's. That's the history of my subs I also have tried a few 6x9's and 2/4 channel amps that blah blah, nothing worth of noting other then what most say, alpine type r 6x9 are great bang for your buck 6x9 speakers, mainly cause of their soft some tweeter

Picture of my 2 10w6v3 subs in the back of my old g6 with a custom build ported box.

But how bout the current build? Well this is where practicality comes in, I went single 10, and plan on running a HD 900/5 amp powering CDT HD-62AS front speakers, and something in the rear for my company. (Think some Polk Sr 5250), paired with a DEH-80prs head unit. Some may ask why these? Cause there darn good speakers and I found great deals on them, keeps the cost low.

Here's what I actually have now, the 10w6v3 sub, custom small box (smallest ported specs, but left sealed) with a HD750/1, and a DEX-8500BHS head unit. Running stock speakers for now :/

Results, with some fine tuning, even my stocks sound good, (not great, I have had Zr's and t2625's so I know decent sound) but decent at least until I get to do the great install! Anyways, all wiring is JL, which to be honest is overkill, and maybe not even worth it to some, knu is great for less money, I just had this when I was anl and planned on doing everything JL, even the stupid fuses (which are just little fuse btw). Other then that this is going to be a cost effective build. Minus wiring so far I'm at 450 cdn for 1 sub and 400 for the amp bought used, and 125 for the current head unit.

Obvs much updates to come as the build progresses, I welcome a questions or suggestions as even tho I have become quite knowledgable to the avrg person over the past 3 total years of car and home audio research, ik I'm just scratching the surface!

Like I have said in other posts I cred much research so far to this forum for helping me decide on things, and I'm sure more help is on the way! Thanks guys and let's talk! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So I installed my speakers on Tuesday night and Wednesday night, and also re-wired some wiring that I didn't like how I did it the first time :p

The sound from these babies are amazing! I truly love it! Clean, crisp and fills the car! I really think that the imaging tweeters really ad a nice dynamic to the listening experience. I still have yet to dynamate, officially mount imaging tweeters and crossovers, but it's coming. :p also have to install rears now

i see you added some foam weatherstripping around the woofers to seal against the door - make sure you see indentations in the foam to prove you are making contact and getting the seal.

where are you locating the crossovers, i can't tell from the pics.

the higher tweeters would be best located just above/on the dash. that is where you want your soundstage.

Thanks for your input man! So my crossovers are in my doors but for now there just sitting there which is annoying cause everytime I close my door I hear another tap lol.

As for the woofers, will do, that was my plan I just have yet to remove the door panel again, which I will have to do for mounting the crossover. Plus I didn't have enough stripping left over for my passenger side :/ so that stinks lol, but this way I get get bigger stuff if it's not making contact.

As for the imaging tweeters, are you sure? This is where CDT puts the imaging tweeter. They were designed to go up there on the pillars and reflect of the windshield, I then also read on what they noted about how the main tweeter (at least with there set up) is better closer to the woofer, hence why I remounted them lower instead of stock location.

However I'm still new to this, ik you have much more experience, so tips, pointers, input is very, very much appreciated! And that goes for the many others on here with much experience in the wonderful CA field!

So I guess I forgot to update a while back but I upgraded to a DEH-80PRS and I swapped out for a HD900/5 amp I could get better pics, but my amp is in the same location as my 750/1 and the 80prs looks the same as every other lol.

(had to update the Bluetooth)

You need to get the Crossovers out of the door cavity because it gets extremely wet and you will ruin the crossovers as they rust and fall apart. The best place to Mount Your crossovers is on the inside of the door skin behind the door panel. That way they stay dry and you don't have to rewire entire car

So like just make sure it's not resting at the bottom? Cause my plan was to place it up higher. I just put it together to make sure it all worked :p and I needed the car aha :p the prob of a daily aha

All interior surfaces get wet. Just get it out of there.
Rich V.
I think I might have you confused or just wasn't clear of my location, sorry, it's like inside my door, not in like a pocket on my door panel, so it's resting at the bottom underneath where my window would sit if fully down. So it's behind the door panel. Basically it's right behind the speaker just a little lower. I shoulda got a pic my bad.

I know what you mean. The interior of a door gets totally wet. rain on the window drains into the door. I've seen many crossovers destroyed from being inside doors.
Rich V.
Oh ok I think ik where your saying now, between the door and door panel, out of sight still but not where water is, makes sense. I guess I should have just wired them to be in my dash :/

So I changed where my crossovers are located, they are now in my dash! Thank you a lot @keep_hope_alive for let me know! As it is I have some pics of what even just a week and a half does to crossovers

it's hard to see in the pic but there is rust on both crossovers on the left side of almost every screw

The crossovers still work all good and fine, but def not a good place for them.

I ended up swapping them out cause I have to sets of speakers so these will be back ups or I'll clean them up re test and sell (haven't decided yet) but the new crossovers are now in my dash with a little rework

It's tight but they fit, and I didn't have to re-wire the whole car again... Actually I ended up using less wire aha.

I also fine tuned my amp and head hbu to what I think is a great "even" volume range.

Now just for the rear speakers and sound dampening.

Here's a question. I like all types of music, classical to dance to rock and roll to jazz. I love my 10w6v3 it's clean sounds good, and the sq is def there. But sometimes I want a little more db. I don't want to loose sq. I love my sealed enclosure but I'm wondering if I should do A.) a ported enclosure B.) jump to a 12w6v3 and run sealed or C.) and dif option than the above, maybe a dif sub idk.

Sq is at the top of the list so if there is no better alternative I'll just live as is. But I think there might be a better option for me. I also want to keep the space to the smallest possible. Hence why I love my sealed w6 only needing 0.55cu ft of space but I can sacrifice more space I just don't want my whole trunk to be a box. This is still a daily and I like to use my trunk.

Any input is appreciated!

Glad to see you moved the crossovers. It still surprises me how wet doors get.
Pic of where your sub is now? Location, orientation, and aiming play a huge role.

Rich V.
It's on the driver side in my trunk facing the trunk.

I should say tho that I was looking into a custom fibreglass enclosed to go behind the wheel well facing sideways prob, I might be able to get the guy to angle it a little tho if needed
