hi there , i ask the same question as you . some month ago - and i went on a quest to make my own subwoofer .

i had posted a few info . and data on how subwoofer is made up .

if you search my user name you might find a few of them ..

is not as easy as just getting the parts .

matching them and also alot of device and machine is needed . to measure as well as

parts that is not open to the market .

you can of cos take a few subwoofer apart and mix and match .

resulting in a audioble subwoofer . but chances is that it will not sound really good or even perform well and risk damaging the amp .

i have a post on subwoofer parts if you search you might find it .

if you can find let me know i will get you the link .

one of the hard parts is to give the magnet it power .

the device relaly cost alot .

and i am lucky that a large factory is helping me out on this .
