My sisters bf got rear ended to day when the roads where icy. Some lady hit him from behind. He asked her if she wanted to call the cops and she said well id get a ticket if we did that so they exchanged information and then both left the seene. Well when i was over there today and it happend today the cops pull in the driveway. They knock my sister and her bf do not anwser the door. So the cops just decide to search his car in the driveway for about 20 min. Then a towtruck is called. But the thing is he has no insurance on his car. So the lady must of went home and called the cops and then they came over and got his car.

Are they legeally aloud to just search his car like that? where do you stand on this? or is that law that they can legeally do that? I dont know thats why im asking you?

why didnt they answer the door? he needs to call the lady and ask what she told the cops and why. also it seems like you are leaving something out of the story. did the go outside and talk to the cops after they saw the towtruck?

always "always" get a police report. it may cause you some money in a ticket but now that lady can claim she didnt do it and nobody would tell the insurance company other wise. im getting sued for 25,000 for about the same situation

Down here in Louisiana they cannot search your car without either a warrant or a genuine probable cause. I'd be interested in what the other party had to say in their discussion with the constabulary prior to their arrival at your sister's or sister's b/f's house.

Having said that I'd suggest that leaving the scene of an accident after having been rear-ended wasn't the most intelligent course of action. It wouldn't have mattered to me if calling the police would have created problems for the other party - I would just want my car fixed! Exchanging information wouldn't have cut it for me - in Louisiana if an accident is not reported within a minimum of 2 hours after it occurred then it never occurred. After 120 has elapsed you can call the police all you like and they'll blow you off like last year's fashions.

I'm interested in the entire backstory here - there's got to be considerably more going on than has been shared with us thus far.

There has to be more to the story though. Why not just answer the door or go outside, you obviously knew what they were comign for, or had some sort of idea that you were in trouble. Thats the only reason I wouldnt answer the door or go outside......
