XM or SIRIUS?

Depends what you use to listen to it.

Are you going to use the wireless FM modulator that most of them are equipped with? Aux connection that they have? Direct connect to a Sirius/XM ready receiver?

Quality is better then FM in general...but not CD quality...

Really! I was not planning to use a modulator.(is that the reason it doesn't sound that great, the modulator?) What is the best way to hook it up SQ wise?

BTW my alpine is "XM" ready

If you want SQ you will be majorly disappointed with either. They are better than FM, but not by much, and are nowhere near CD quality. What you want is HD radio, but only a few manufacturers offer it,and fewer places have it (though Portland OR has 9 stations at last check in HD) Honestly, XM is okay, but I still listen to my ipod 90% of the time, not that it's all that fantastic for sq either, but better that xm/sirius. Both services have that same compressed, muddy lows and highs that fm has- not the quality I expected.

True, not SQ. Get Sirius though, the programming on XM is suspect to say the least. Of course that is subjective depending on what you listen too.

i have both xm and sirius, i am paying for sirius, but i get xm for free. i prefer xm over sirius. the programming on xm is so much better than what is on sirius. sirius is like fm radio on steroids, and xm is plays a lot of music i never hear on fm or sirius. there is too much talk on sirius for me. i have xm directly connected to my alpine hu, and sirius connected via aux port w/ monster rca cables, and i prefer the sound of xm better. this is only my opinions on both since i do have both. but if you prefer to hear music you always hear on fm go with sirius, but if you would like to find more of music you never hear, go with xm. only my opinion.

I see it the other way around.

XM seemed to have more talk then Sirius and the programming and commercials on XM were annoying. And Sirius hasn't been cutting out channels like XM has to make way for baseball. That was the main reason for me leaving XM.

Its all opinion. I've had both, so now I've seen the difference.

XM is okay, I don't have any problems with commercials because the music channels are free of them other than 10-second bumpers reminding you you are listening to XM. Both are roughly equal on programming I thing, and XM is cheaper- and has about 66% more subscribers than Sirius. I'm not bashing I just think both were overhyped about sq- they are what they are- commercial free radio with better sq than fm and lesser sq than a cd. HD radio by comparison makes am sound like fm and fm sound like a cd- it's pretty impressive, until it has difficulty finding a signal and starts bouncing back and forth between HD and analog....
