no its an actual hdmi port under the audio/video plug. you can buy adapters to use hdmi on older consoles and allows 1080p thru the hdmi

all i know is that i hooked it up to a high def tv at my cousins once and i could only get 720i outta the stock cords....didnt need to buy hdmi because i never had planned on getting a high def tv...sorry
