xbox 360 controller issue

So i borrowed a controller from a buddy of mine, and it seems that the start button and left trigger are switched. The start button doesnt seem to do anything anymore and the left trigger pulls up the start menu. Im not quite sure how this could happen but maybe there is a setting somewhere in the controller to change this? I have never used an XBOX in my life, but last remote object I had that did that got wet...

take the battery out and let sit for 24 hours. then use the reset button on the xbox and controller to reconnect it. if that dont work, send it in
