On the 4k2d I thought the specs read something like 4K+ @ 2 ohms 12.?V and like 5,500 @ 2 and 13.8 volts????????? You are saying it doesnt do rated power or am I reading this wrong.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
No amp does exact rated power in a real world music application due to impedance rise. Unless it's an amp like jl audio that their rating are from 1ohms to 5ohms the same power. Most people don't know that when you give an amp a impedance load from their subs they think that's the impedance the amp is seeing. But depending on subs and enclosure, if you have a load of 2ohms for example most amps will see anywhere from 4-6ohms from the 2ohms nominal when playing full tilt.

The ratings you see on 95% of amplifiers on the market are done using a none reactive load. So they'll test it at 1ohms but that impedance is nonreactive so the amp sees 1ohms for the power test. But that's not how a subwoofer reacts. That's why you'll see a lot of people getting away with running their amps a little lower than rated impedance because of impedance rise.

In my test of a 4k2d at 2ohms our impedance rise was crazy high at almost 6ohms and we still got 3k power at 12.0v. We didn't even have enough battery to give it consistent power. Our impedance rise is so high that we could even get away with running the amp lower for more power.

That's why I said he'll see no less than 3k because what factors into the potential power is his battery supply, alternator and impedance rise. When I recommend an amplifier I won't feed you any bull shit telling you what it can do. I'll tell you real world power that you will see out of an amplifier. And the 4k2d capable of doing at a minimum a true 3000w at a price of $999 is still more than most amps can do at that price range. And if you don't believe me do some searching on amplifier testing and pay attention on the impedance the guys test the amps at so the amp would come close to rated power. Hope that helps.

I understand now that you were basing your numbers on his high rise. It just threw me for a minute the low figures you had stated. I have read all of your tests/reviews and they are all top notch. I wish more were as detailed. Not knocking the product at all just wanted to make sure everyone understood what you were basing your quote to Korn on. Bumps for you.

good luck with your search.but just an observation.. you mention that

your amp is the 16V version..

if thats the case then you really are not getting the full

potential from the amp..especially with the batts you're running.. well

at least the ones you have listed in your sig..

that amp is really ideal for Extreme Class use or for a 16V set up..

I figure you already know this.. but figured I'd mention it just in case
and actually this is were your wrong sir. the 12v version is for competitions only as they will protect above 13v the 16v version is made for daily driveing and street classes.
