I have to offer my UL12...

How much power can these really take?
Good question' date=' much depends on enclosure, obviously.. to be perfectly honest, I don't know.. The prior owner to me was running it IB with about 600w nicely...
I bought it for SQ..[/quote']

they will take 2500 in a small box,1200-1500 in a nice ported or sealed

in a 2.25 ft ported they will cook with 2000+, trust me I have done it!

And a "recone" fron critical mass is $1,200+ and actually is a replacement sub, because critical mass is simply a shell of a audio company, and they simply dont have the ability to fix them.

A re-cone is a new sub... but' date=' in 15yrs of audio, i've blown 1 sub, 1 midbass and 1 tweeter.. so I don't know about this re-cone crap..[/quote']

thats what sucks, i also wanted to know if the frame is polymer or stell/aluminum so the maybe psi will be able to recone

CM NOW is a shell of a company from what I understand, yes... But the designs were done by an incredible mind, one no longer with the company, again, from what I understand.. odd company without a doubt...

The frame is aluminum.. it's 17lbs total... I'm not sure of too many 17lb subs that can do what this does.. buy WHY the insistent need for the "re-cone" option.. ???? Is it because people just make shitty products that NEED re-coning that often??

Seriously, i'm not dissin ya AT ALL... I honestly don't get it.. ?? Is re-coning the frikkin NORM???

And hey man, I don't/didn't want to come off like a jerk, I'm just not happy about doing this.. I've always wanted a UL12 and if I could afford it, I'd builda plexi end-table to house it in, with lights on it.. (yeah, I could have screws loose too..lol)

100% AGREE!

Yes the origional designs were revolutionary, and still are, but when it was bought out, it went to shit, just like the V2 version amps. the same guy that designed the UL12 is the one that designed the Stroker PRO, and that is a hell of a sub also.

and yep there is not a real reason to expect to have to recone this sub ever. a properly built box and amp set up will give you unreal SQ and get pretty **** loud at the same time.

2critical did 155db with 2 ul12 and 2 2500watts amps So they do get freaking loud

reconing has become the norm with high power applications, ill be running 2200 rns to the sub( not daily but once in a while i like to turn it up) ,run most of my subs in sealed small enclosure so it would be able to handle a bit more power.
