I just know most home stereo amps will fry at 4 ohms...unless maybe its a dual 6 speaker setup wired at 8 ohms...Was the woofer in question tested with a DMM ? It could be a bad capacitor in the crossover section...a lot of older home speaker passive crossovrs are known for leaking capacitors and going out...due to age...That was my take on it too,but he asked for 4 ohm drivers in the original post. I lost a driver in a set of Polk Audio M5jr and they are 4 ohm's as well. The newer M5jr+ is 8 ohms though.
Sounds on the big side to be an average mid though.
It really depends what model of receiver you have. Most modern receivers handle 4 ohm loads just fine.I just know most home stereo amps will fry at 4 ohms...unless maybe its a dual 6 speaker setup wired at 8 ohms...Was the woofer in question tested with a DMM ?
