Yeah, but how many traffic lights are installed with the MIRT reception thingy?

When the fire truck approaches within 1,800 feet (line-of-sight) of a preemption-equipped traffic signal controlled intersection...
It seems as if the signal has to be a "preemption-equipped traffic signal controlled intersection"

So, i doublt it works in most scenarios.

Unless, of course, every single city has them installed...

never thought about that....but how do the cops/ambulances get through then?
Two items are required for Traffic Signal Preemption; 1st, the traffic light must be equipped with the technology (the “receiver”) to receive the coded frequency signal from an emitter, and 2nd, the emergency or official vehicle must be possess the technology (the “emitter”) that sends out the coded frequency signal. (From a report published by the Intelligent Transportation Society of America, Washington, D.C., titled: “Important Tools in America’s Homeland Defense”, dated October 7, 2001; It states: Of 55 of the 75 largest metropolitan areas 71% of the traffic signals are equipped with Traffic Signal Preemption).
Seems as if 55 of 75 largest metropolitan areas have 71% of signals pre-empted as of 2001.

So you're telling me 71% (of the signals) of 73% (of the cities) have pre-emption?

That's 51% of signals in the 75 largest metropolitan areas.

And ok, assume there are 30,000 cities in the U.S.

71% signals of 73% cities of 0.25% of all the cities of the US means that

this product will work on approximately 0.129575% of all traffic signals in the united states

yeah...you lost me but ill agree:D

Probably they just turn on their lights, slow down to 10, and drive through the intersection / on the median / on the wrong side of the road
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif well i have obviously seen them do that but from the way the site looks they supply alot of P.O.'s and EMT's and what not...thats why i was wondering if the site was bogus or what...thanks though

In Florida, I saw a cop bust a screeching u-ey on a five lane road to pull over a guy that did a wheelie on his bike.

In Ohio, you'd have to have smashed into the front window of a krispy kreme to get that kinda action.
