WTB Digital 4 Channel Amp

Currently I am running a Zapco 3.0 and a 6.0. I want to save up some space in my trunk and get a small and really good 4 channel amp. But i dont want to step backwards in respect of sound quality. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif The JL was measured really good in terms of THD and IMD. So i think this would be a nice alternative to my Zapco amps.
Zed audio Draconia III, does 150w x 4 @ 4. Has a small foot print as well. Pm me if your interested!

Compared to the Leviathan I, the JL was measured much better (0.008%THD vs 0.08THD @25W,1kHz). I am afraid that it behaves the same with the Draconia. Interesting, to be honest I dont know what the current Levi and draconias total harmonic distributions are off the top of my head. Ill do a little diggin and get back to you for sure!

"Today it is relatively easy to build an amplifier with THD figures in the “triple oh” region, but what do they sound like. Normally not very good. To obtain these low THD numbers all we do is design an amplifier with high open loop gain. That is before negative feedback is applied. Once we apply a lot of global feedback, we improve all measured parameters such as THD, Noise, Frequency response and Damping factor. Our class B amplifiers are designed a little differently. We use very little global feedback but rather optimize each stage with local feedback. This allows us to design an amplifier with lower open loop gain and thus we only have to apply about 8dB of global feedback. Ultra low THD was not our goal but rather an amplifier which sounds the way we want it to. Other factors affect THD such as PCB layout, grounding and power distribution to the amplifier channels. Our class B amplifiers do however achieve very low distortion due to the fact that we follow the “rules” and their circuit design is conducive to low distortion. Class D amplifiers operate somewhat differently to Class B types."
With that said, Total Harmonic Distortion with 4 ohm 20Hz-20KHz From 1 watt to rated power on the Draconia is typically less than 0.05%.
I have used the PDX line and JL (both HD and XD) amps and I can personally tell you there really should not be any comparison between the HD and PDX vs the Zed amps for sound quality. Zed is on another level of 12v amps. I also can tell you Zed references the old McIntosh home amps for sound quality comparison.
I do not think that there is one person on this planet that would be able to hear the difference between the 2.
When all is said and done, the install, parts used for the install, the vehicle and speakers used will play a much bigger role in how they sound vs what their spec. say.

there is no discussion..you cannot hear .05%THD...therefore it is non-issue. The issue is where manufacturers rate their amps. With class D amps and 2006 CEA ratings, the amps are rated where the output reaches the 1% thd level, for example, the PPI below:
The above graph is typical for a Class D amplifier, as you can see the amp is rated for 145w x 4 @ 1%THD. In actuality, the amp operates between .008% and .03% thd throughout most of it's output...up until about 130w rms, before it even crosses the .05% thd threshold....not too **** bad for a tiny footprint $240 amp capable of 900w rms total output....and remember, according to Robert Zeff, any THD below 1-2% is inaudble. Speaking of which, if you like the work he did with Zapco, you should look into his amps at Arc Audio.
Amplifiers
personally, IMO, as others mentioned, Mr. Steve Mantz at ZED AUDIO has the small footprint class D nailed down pat...there is none better.
No discussion is needed. The differences at that level can not be heard by ANY human ear.
You can take amp "X" and mount it in one spot in the car....test it for THD and then mount it in a different location and test it again for THD...
Now test it for THD using different speakers, interconnects and you nearly always get a different THD reading. Some more, and some less.
And seeing as how almost every amp manufacture rates their amps in different ways, .005 and .05 really do not mean squat.
