Ok folks here's the deal: it's Christmas break and I have two weeks ahead of me to do as I please. I just bought some 12s and I'm getting the amp for Xmas so that will be fun to play around with, but I was thinking I'd like to tackle some kind of project. Namely, my trunk. Things are pretty bleak back there, the car is an 88 and I'm pretty sure it got nailed from behind at some point. The stock carpet is actually in fairly good quality but isn't fastened down well so it looks shitty. I was thinking it would be fun to kind of go all out and "Pimp my Trunk" so I'm making this thread for you guys to brain storm with me about what would be fuggin sweet. (on a budget, haha) One idea I had was to build something out of wood that will insert into the trunk and follow its basic shape but just make it look nicer, because the bare metal has a bunch of grease or some weird sh!t on it. I'll probably need to clean that off anyways though because I think I might install some Damplifier. The thing about putting a big wooden insert in there is I'm not sure how much that would weigh the car down etc. I'd kind of like to build two small boxes for my 12s and put each one in a back corner angled out, with the amp displayed in the middle. Also, a cool thing about the wood idea is I could put some accent lighting underneath it and make little windows, maybe put some neon under there or something. The possibilities are endless. So here are the dimensions were working with and some pics of the trunk. Let your friends know about this thread and have them come throw some ideas around too!

i'd use 3/4"

Probably rip out the plastic on the sides and put wood there eh? What about having like 1/2" mdf for structural strength with like a thin sheet of a sexy grain wood on top?

I like your name btw.....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Off to work, I'll be back to see what you guys have come up with later tonight.

P.S. I don't see why there are like 30 views and 5 posts... I'm sure everyone has an opinion, post it! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Haha yes I love my trunk, but so far haven't been able to put it to good use.

And no, I have been reading up on fiberglassing. Not sure if it is the route I want to go though. How much do you think it would cost? I really like how some of the enclosures turn out though, those rounded edges are sick. Fiberglassing the whole trunk could be interesting //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif I need something outrageous to put in the middle front area though haha. Like one of those electric car race tracks... hahaha, that would be off the chain... pop the trunk.. lights going.. cars racing around the trunk, bump the sub and they fly off.. hahah

well i like the idea of having the subs on the very back of the trunk where the trunk opens up. to the sides, you have enough room there to put them in a seal enclosure specially if you fiberglass the enclosures. since you'll be able to use more of the available space then you would with wood, if design properly you may be able to go ported, and get more from the subs.

you can easily make the enclosure to sit right behind the back seats. do the seats fold down?, if they do why not make the enclosure so the subs fire into the cab. then make the amplifier rack in the trunk behind the enclosure with a nice cosmetic panel so when you open the trunk all you see of a sound system is the amp rack and amp. all nice and neat then you fold the back seats down and show off the subs. but it will all be nice and disguised and sound good too.
