I am waiting until after Christmas this year to pick one up. That way, all the ones with the bugs will be rotated out of stock, and newer ones with the bugs worked out will be in stock. I have 3 or 4 people that have had problems with them ranging from not playing PS2 games all the way to it won't play anything; movies, games, music....etc. they are very buggy right now. I would wait.

Not all PS3s are backwards compatible, but im sure they have one that is, and not all PS2 games will work on PS3 (I believe the ones with the blue backs wont)

i have a 360, have an HDTV, but do not have a blu ray player
i dont really plan to play the ps3 for games unless they release something really good, so my question is, is it worth it to pick up a ps3 for the BR player with the chance of maybe playing a game on it in the future

I have one and to be honest, until GTA4 and I guess Metal Gear Solid 4 came out. Other than that, it is just a bunch of promises.

Blu-Ray is ok I guess, although the only 2 movies I watched were Spiderman 3 and Talladega nights.

So to answer your questions, it is worth it for the BR player. It is the only one I think that you can update the firmware on. Well capable of at least. Not sure if they actually do in the updates. It's like if you get it, cool, if not you're not missing out on much.
