Anyone know how to reformat and restore in windows xp? My girlfriend got a bunch of junk on her computer. I want to erase everything and start anew...any idea on how?

put the xp cd in, format the drive....create a C partition and start installing

Do a full reformat, takes long, but imo it's cleans it better

yea, dont do the quick format- i did that once and like half of the files were still there..... go figure

yep, put xp cd in..... click any button when it says boot from cd... click f8 to accept liscence agreement.... select full format on drive C.... click full format with ntfs..... wait for it to get done... then select your unpartitioned space... im sure youll use all of it... then use that as your new partition.. then follow the rest of the instructions

Creat a c and d partition....install windows on your c: and all your other good shit on d:

I've never had a problem using the "quick format".

I did a quick format on mine, and all my files where still on it, but it fixed the problem I was having, so it was all good. I tried to do a full format on my mom's computer, left it running overnight, by the time morning came it was only at 35%. Her computer is slow as hell tho.

your nuts.... MAX ive had one taken was 45 min..... ive done plenty of xp installs......... and also witha quickie if tehre are viruses on there... some MAY not be deleted

f disk is hard to explain over the internet to some one who hasnt used it

Update: It deleted everything as I wanted it but for some reason all the standard icons liek my computer, internet explorer, ect are gone as well. Any ideas/
