i've been getting a lot of freezes lately, and they are software feezes (the hard drive light is not on when it freezes). so i want to start by uninstalling xp and see if that will help the problem any. the only thing is i dont want to lose anything on my harddrive, so how do i go about uninstalling. like will it just ask where i want to install and thats it? i just want to do it right and not lose all my crap.

gonna have to format it sounds like--- save to cd or dvd--- or external drive, the stuff you wanna keep-- make sure you have all your program keys for re-installing--- it's all gonna go bye-bye when you re-format... also, you need to go into your bios set-up and tell it to boot from CD ROM first BEFORE!!!! doing anything else... Xp re-install/recover CD will do the rest...

there is a lot of info on the web about re-formating a hard drive with XP--- search my friend and good luck!

additionally/..... if you are going to go throught the trouble of re-formatting,,, partition off about 10 Gigs of your main drive for use by the operating system... then save the rest for downloads, installs, pictures, music, whatever... at least that way if this happens in the future, you only have to reformat the one partition with the OP system on it... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

with XP all you have to do is slide the first cd in, close the tray, restart the computer and it automatically goes into the reformat mode. all you have to do is press next about 3 times, and wait 20-40 minutes (switching from one cd to the next when it tells you to) and your done.

hmmm that sucks, well i didn't read this until just now. i accidentally installed another version of xp. so i now have 2 operating systems installed, one on my C: drive and one on my E: drive. im going to do a little more research and see if i can pinpoint what exactly is causing the problem, but is there a way i can just delete the other os?
