Last night, there was an automatic update that downloaded, and I restarted. It immediately booted up to the blue screen of death for a millisecond, then rebooted and did so continuously. I had to restart in safe mode and system restore to a previous state. Had this happen on both my computers and my roommates as well...

I have updates turned off. My computer is healthy because of it
**** straight!! If it ain't broke then why on earth would you be "fixing" it. I just could never fathom the reasoning for all these updates. I still run windows 2000 Pro with ZERO updates and it functions perfectly fine ALL the time. When I was on campus and was using Direct Connect I needed to get the stupid .net update and SP2 or something stupid and I had nothing but troubles then, now that I no longer need Direct Connect I have reformatted the machine and run nothing but what installs from the cd and I have yet to have an issue.

I am sure in the coming years I will be forced to "upgrade" but until then while my system functions perfectly I will stick to it. One reason why I can't stand XP with all its auto stuff and such, I get SOO mad when I first boot it up and then all I start seeing are these retarded messages about how my computer might be at risk cause the firewall is disabled, or that no anti-virus software is installed, oh I should check for updates. Within 10 seconds of windows XP booting for the first time I am ready to throw the machine out the window or to just reformat it all over again lol.

the only reason i allow windows update is so that i don't have that ridiculous security alert on the task bar all the time..maybe just me but that thing is annoying.
That thing is more annoying to me than the friggin paperclip from office. Some say I have anger management issues I just say LOOK AT THE FREAKIN THING!!!1 Wouldn't you get pissed off too with it always popping up lol. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

heres how you disable it. Go to control panel, open up Security Center, click on the left where it says Change the way Security Center alerts me, and uncheck all of them

I turned mine off also but I needed one update for my wireless card. that's the only one I've updated //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. Also those warnings. Just look around and you can find stuff. Just wish I could turn off the stupid sync center and sidebar taskbar icons. I use both, but the icons in the taskbar are useless.
