wincustomize

Yeah, its pretty cool. I have the Australian main theme right now. Its called Royale. Its a lot slicker looking than the normal Windows theme but its not overboard.

This is what it looks like

I would just do the uxtheme patch and then go to deviantart.com and you can use any of the hundreds of visual styles on there for free. Im not sure if your method is free, but I guess any program on the internet can be had for free in some way or another.

I would advise against it because its a resource hog. If you patch your windows xp theme file, you can use all kinds of custom themes using the windows theme engine and not the third party program. But if you have the resources to waste...

yeah ram and cpu. not that big of a deal if you have it to spare, but those kind of things add up quick. All the icons next to your clock are each using resources. Getting rid of some and you will notice a performance increase.

But since windows has its own theme engine, there are only three themes you can use without the patch, blue xp style, olive xp style, and silver xp style. Once you hack you uxtheme.dll file you can use any theme file and it will run just like the standard windows themes, instead of employing a seperate program.
