OK, i blew one of my RE8's and dont really have enough money to get another one or even get anything else..

had to put the prd500.1 in the pawn shop, but

I have an OLD Jensen XA2250, which is supposedly 300watts bridged@4ohms

IF I wire the sub down to 8ohms, and bridge the amp, that should give me 150watts to the sub, which is pretty good for ONE RE8....I have already asked this part of the question and been told it will work. In fact, I tried it, with the sub just sitting on the seat and only playing for a few seconds, and yes it did seem to do OK.

Now the real question> If I take my 2 sub box, and cut it in 1/2, then take the end of 1 half and use it to cover the open end on the other half, thus making my box 1/2 the cubic ft it was....supposing I'm able to seal everything back up.....should it sound ok in that "new" box?

Kind of a ghetto way to do it, but I guess it should be fine as long as it's sealed completely.

update, its done, hooked up to the pos Jensen...so probably getting 125-150 watts, and actuall sounds OK, not really loud, but does hit good on some of the low notes....like in Dr.Oblivion, by Bass Mechanic.

Unless you cut the port area in half too, your new enclosure is tuned to about 50hz (maybe higher maybe lower depending on how much net space you removed. Which isn't surprising because Dr. Oblivion has mostly high frequency bass.

I did cut my port in about 1/2..I guesss

the original port was about 3/4 the length of the whole box, and the new port is also 3/4 the length of the new box

btw, how is Dr. Oblivion mostly high? Seems to hit awfully low to me.

Wait wait wait.... do you mean you cut the length of the port in half? You made it shorter but not skinnier?

And yes, 40, 50, and 60hz is not very low at all and barely gets down to 30hz on the sweeps (most of the sweeps end at 40hz actually).
