Will this head unit be able to support both amps?

I currently have a Pioneer DEH-P2900MP in a 01' Honda Odyssey. Find specs at: Pioneer DEH-P2900MP CD receiver with MP3/WMA playback at Crutchfield.com

It has pre-amp outputs compatible with 4-channel amps. It has switchable rear pre-amp outputs, so "The rear preamp outputs can be set in the menu to output a full range signal to the rear channels, or a filtered signal to a subwoofer. When set to subwoofer, the output typically has a selectable low-pass filter and is non-fading.".

I'm clearly not an expert on audio, but I've been researching into what exactly that means.

Is there any way to hook up an amp to power four speakers and an amp to power a subwoofer to this head unit?

If there are 2 sets of RCA outs on the back of the headunit, one should be front, the other rear. The front would go to the 4 channel amp, and then you should be good there.

The rear set would go to the sub amp, and somewhere in the menus on the head unit itself, you would find the setting that switches the rear RCA outs to "Subwoofer mode", which I'm assuming would cross that channel over at ~80hz, so that only sub-bass frequencies got to the sub amp.

If there are only one set of RCA outs on the headunit, then you would need an active crossover, which would split it into 2 sets of RCA's, and elminate sub-bass to the 4 channel amp and send it only to the sub amp.

In short, any headunit can support multiple amps as long as it has RCA outs.

thanks a ton! so i know i'll be able to support both amps, but the four channel amp only needed one set of RCA outlets to begin with? Thanks again!

If you are going to amp front and rear speakers, you will need to keep the HU in full range mode for the rears. You can connect the rear preouts to both the rear inputs of the 4 channel and the inputs af your sub amp just by using 'Y' cables. The lowpass filter on the sub amp will filter out everything but bass.

like mentioned before just run the front rcas to the amp and rear on subwoofer to the bass amp, either bridge the amp or get some y splitters (depending on impedance.
