details of the shooting, “Williams was shot in the abdomen, Matthews was hit in the head with a shotgun pellet and was in a coma for a period of time.” I am not sure about you, but I would much rather have marijuana legalized than be shot in the head because it was illegal. You have never heard of a corn farmer shooting someone who stumbled upon his field, which is because corn is legal. Legalizing marijuana would only and could only reduce the amount of crimes that are associated with the drug. Many critics argue that marijuana is a gateway drug and leads to teenagers trying harder, more addicting, drugs. What they do not tell you is that this theory is wrong and that statistical data can disprove the theory. The MLO or Marijuana Legalization Organization dedicates their knowledge to help this cause. The MLO has conducted research and give links to original documents from the National Institute of Drug Abuse and medical reports that discuss the gateway theory and the statistics surrounding it. They have concluded, “It's true that hard drug users generally try marijuana before they try hard drugs, but that's only because marijuana is more popular and easier to obtain than other illegal drugs. The more important observation is that MOST people who use marijuana DO NOT go on to use harder drugs. There is nothing special about using marijuana that makes people want to use harder drugs.” The gateway theory works on the principles that all illegal drugs must be purchased from an underground market where the buyers become exposed to more than just marijuana. Marijuana does not directly cause someone to try a new drug; the exposure to these new drugs entices people to try them. Legalizing marijuana would allow users to buy their products without facing drugs that are more dangerous; this would completely remove any effects the gateway theory has on people who use marijuana and another reason to push for the legalization of marijuana. Critics also argue that, although marijuana has been proven safer than alcohol, they think the effects of the drug can put people in dangerous situations such as driving.
