I smoked for over 20 years. I have been quit for over 3 years now. After many attempts to quit cold turkey, patch, quit smoking studies I was able to quit using Chantix. I was really ready to quit this time, I don't think that I was doing it for the right reasons before. If you are trying to quit for any reason other than your truly wanting to, it won't work. That includes for a sig. other, money, job etc. I have not had one single relapse, I can sit in smokey bars, drink all I want, etc. Matter of fact, the smell bothers me a bit now, rather than smelling good to me( which it did up until about a year ago).
Don't get discouraged if you can't quit the first time, it took me 5 attempts. Also, even if you are succsessful, you will think about it from time to time, even get cravings. Mostly when stressed( at least for me). Stick to your guns, and you will make it.
