Man Shogun shouldve won that fight IMO. The judges are blind and ****.
Agreed. But you either have to knock out the champ or take him down and beat on him to win the belt. Pretty much have to destroy the champ to get the decision. Shogun didnt do enough I guess for the judges to give him the nod

dude, thats such B.S. and you know it..

You either A, win the fight, or B. lose the fight..and Machida DEFINITELY did not win that fight.. he was exhausted, and glad that fight was over by the end because he was in a lot of visible pain... Mauricio could have gone another 2 rounds picking him apart with those leg kicks, and Machida would have dropped to the ground by the end of it. Mauricio showed no signs of fatigue, or being injured by the end of that fight

all you saying, " oh, you gotta beat the champ to be the champ" thats B.S. you either Win, or Lose, and Shogun DEFINITELY did not lose that fight

there's a f-in score card for a reason people!!... and in no category did Machida win majority of the rounds.. except for runnin away THE ENTIRE FIGHT!! (yes I know he's a counter punch kinda guy...be he was runnin)

shogun never had dominant position at any point in the fight. All he did was land a ton of leg kicks and counter punches. I think he did more damage than Machida, but every round was close and neither did anything to put their signature on any of the 5 rounds. Rematch is definitely in order

he didnt have to!! he knew he had machida hurt... landing more strikes per round is all he had to do in that fight because Machida didnt do sh it!!

i wanna see the striking ratio on that fight, because thats really all there was to score it on

neither one of them threw many punches, neither one had ANY takedowns.. neither one really attempted any takedowns... so all there was, was 3 things

1. Damange done

2. who was the aggressor

3. who landed the most strikes

shogun, shogun, and shogun

machida was done by the end of that fight.. face it, you could tell he didnt want to fight anymore... conditioning was gone after round 4... it was only going downhill from there

thats why I loved watching this fight.. it was soooo technical, to where every punch or kick counted... there were no huge combos, no brawling, no ground n pound, it was just punch for punch... kick by kick

Just like Muhammed Ali... slowly broke down his opponents one punch at a time

I don't agree that shogun was the aggressor. i don't consider unsuccessful takedown attempts "aggression." IMO Machida initiated more combat (thus giving shogun the ability to counter).

I also do not believe amount of strikes landed should determine who wins a round. Different strikes have different levels of impact on a fight. A fighter could land 20 jabs and do less damage than 1 leg kick. This is the reason I think judges don't take too much stock in amount of strikes thrown by a given competitor.
