Who knows computers/ how to make my dvd drive work?

A while ago I had to get my computer reformatted, and I don't think they installed my dvd drive thingy. I can't play dvds on my comp, but I can play other video stuff.

WTF is the deal? I tried downloading shit from dell but it doesn't work.

Anyone have any ideas?

have you tried re-installing the dvd drive so the computer reconizes it. had some trouble when i added a second dvd drive to mine.

I don't have the disk.

Step 1:

Unplug your PC and then look inside to make sure the DVD drive is hooked up to the three wire power plug and the flat, wide IDE cable.

If it is hooked up then power back up your PC then right click on MY Computer>then>hardware>then>device manager.

Look down and find DVD/CD-ROM drives.

Click on the + mark and see if your drive(s) all show up.

If you have XP you don't need any driver disk for the DVD or CD ROM drive.

The default drivers are built into XP.

It will load them when it finds new hardware.

Im in device manager, and under DVD/cd rom drives there are two things, both are saying they are working properly.

I have XP and it never loaded. I just called dell and they said I need the disk, or to find a decoder online

type the brand and model number of your dvd drive in google or just go to the manufacturers website, your guaranteed to find the software at at least one of those.

I always throw my copies away b/c I build my computers and alsways end up with 2-3 copies of each... they seem to stuff them into every box of hardware...
