I have a 60 GB IPOD Video that i rarely use and was wondering if when directly connected to a car stereo, such as the Alpine CDA-9856, will the quality be just as good as a CD?

Does anyone else here use an ipod for all their music needs.. It seems to me like it would be the most practical option seeing that it would save you the hassle of having multiple CD's. I was even thinking about building it into my dashboard.. A picture of the interior of my car can be viewed HERE .

I think it'd be pretty cool to take out the compartment above the CD player and make a custom ipod holder.. Who agrees?

It doesnt give the same quality as the original CD's (or exact copies of the original CDs) from the store or w/e u get them. Downloaded MP3's usually have lower bit rates and don't sound as good, but If ur playing CDs (CDs with mp3s) that are burned from the MP3s in the first place it would sound the same.

I've been using it for a very long time, and it's a great convienince. But like I said if u want pure sound quality than go with store bought CDs or exact copies of the store bought CDs

I use my pioneer p880 + cdib100ii + 6gb ipod mini. I really hate it when I forget to bring my ipod into my car though, beacuse I don't carry around any cds anymore. I can't really tell on any sound quality differences between this and my store bought cds, but most of my music is pretty good quality VBR.

i have a 9857 w/ the full speed cable and its pretty nice...

im hating myself tho cause i bought a nano thinking it was cool cause its so tiny but 4gb isnt nearly enough space for a good music mix

but if u got 60gb you should be good to go

Its easier but at the same time sucks. unplugging it to go to a differnt album, artist, playlist is a pain in the ***.
What do you mean unplugging it to change album, artist, playlist? Dont you just control everything from the ipod? Also will .wav files play on an ipod? I thought they had to be uploaded via itunes which converts everything to mp3, correct?

ehhh w/ the deck hes looking at it will be all controled through the deck... u only have to unplug the ipod to load more music

ipod will play .wav

AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Music Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3 and 4), Apple Lossless, WAV, AIFF

For people who dont want to read that whole article, i'll quote the most important part.

"The AAC 320 kbit/sec encoding results in much larger files, for just a little bit more quality"

So pretty much, i have tons and tons of space so im gonna use AAC 320 kbit/sec

Oh yea, I like the idea of putting your pod in that compartment above the H/U.

I have one (1gig) im my car and the only time I take it out is to update my library.

I have a bigger one but for me it was useless, because I dont need more than around 150 songs at a time . The 30 gig is just too much music for me to go thru while I'm driving (and pay attention to the road at the same time) since I dont ever drive that far. If I was going out of town or a drive longer than two hours, then I'd throw in the big one.

You will enjoy it more if you dont get OCD while using it and try to fine tune every song.
