Who here is an Engineer major?

profs bust their ***** to get and stay where they are.
x2

One of mine works full time at NASA and teaches. When you teach you have to give TONS of reports/lectures do research, etc, etc. It's a very time consuming job. I have utmost respect for Engineering teachers. And teachers in general (except the ones who don't care about their students).

im thinking about becoming an engineer, mechanical or electric engineer, i still have time to decide...anyone know of any good collages in the north east ?

maybe if you teach high school or at a community college. otherwise summer is prime research time because you don't have to deal with students. you guys have a real skewed view of academia - profs bust their ***** to get and stay where they are.
there are always exceptions of course...
No skewed view here. My father is a full (tenured) professor at a state university. He only teaches grad. students and does research. Research is a year round thing, but his researchers (grad students) help out the load. Once you're tenured, your there until you die/retire.

I do agree that assistant/associate profs and lecturers have to work, but if they get promoted (ie must have a Ph.D), it's smooth sailing. Even my father makes fun of academics and he is one.

im ME
