Who here is an Engineer major?

Im double majoring in engineering and drafting & design @ a community college //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Don't plan on working straight out of college...I plan on getting the Ph.D before I start in the real world.

most Ph.Ds go right into academics to avoid the real world. High salary, no work required, students ******* up left and right. They love it. if you wanna do it your way more power to ya //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/graduate.gif.d982460be9f153bb54e5d4cb744f6ae8.gif

pretty sure most profs have to have some research output or they get canned. it's not the smartest setup in the world, but that's how the majority of higher ed institutions work. though imho it's not very smart to get rid of good teachers because they're bad researchers.

as for the people worried about cal i'd be more worried about applying that cal to your physics/circuits classes than the actual math itself. that was my experience anyways with the second half of physics. cal itself was nothing in comparison.

and yeah the whole cal ii being easier than cal iii is a pretty good general rule. it depends on the uni obviously [like that guy with cal iv], but most places do the whole integration by parts and series bullshit in cal ii which is more of a pain than the 3d work in cal iii. too much memorization.

plus you get summers off, a nice break at Christmas and there are jobs all over the country.

I am thinking about majoring in this at Auburn. How have you liked it so far and do you do a co-op or internship anywhere?
It's good. You just have to disregard all the BS about "if you're good at Math you'll like Engineering". That's not true. AT ALL.

If you like physics you'll enjoy engineering. You need to be able to understand how things work, and physics is a very good determinant of your ability to think critically.

I co-op for Jacobs Engineering, a NASA contractor. I enjoy it there. I'm on my 2nd semester there and have one more to go.

uncfanforlife07: **** man! I'm going to state as well in the fall, studying EE more than likely. Its gonna be tough being a tar heel fan at heart, and going to state huh? I'm in teh same boat there. Which dorm are you stayin at?
yea it will be hard going from a UNC fan to a STATE fan but its better than going to duke. Football season will be easier but basketball season will be hard. I did my dorm stuff and i put turlington down as my first choice. what about you? PM me or hit me up on aim uncfanforlife07 so we dont jack this thread to much,

maybe if you teach high school or at a community college. otherwise summer is prime research time because you don't have to deal with students. you guys have a real skewed view of academia - profs bust their ***** to get and stay where they are.

there are always exceptions of course...

Thats what's wrong with people here. too many **** engineers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Find me on that actually consults with the people who have to deal with their beautiful ideas down the road and I will give him the BJ of a lifetime.
