Who games on Macs??

isn't alienware waaaay overpriced?
could be, but you get a sick computer for gaming. it's hard to find a gaming laptop that isnt expensive //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif if you were getting a desktop i would just tell you to build your own, but i know nothing about building laptops.

EDIT: Mac is known to be waaaay overpriced also //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

for everyday computer use, yes mac is overpriced, but if your doing video/audio editing (like me!) its fine & dandy

Ok, i'm stuck in a dilemma. The college i'm going to next year doesn't allow video game consoles (it's a military college) so i'm going to turn into a computer gamer (they let you have laptops / desktops) BUT i've had my eye on a macbook for quite sometime now. How is this going to work with me wanting to play games on it? I'm know for the same amount of money I could get another killer laptop AND desktop to game on...but i really want a Mac lol.
Suggestions? And no this is not a mac vs PC debate thread, just inquiry.
The Macbook is probably the worst gaming computer that $1300 can buy.
If you're going to get a Mac and you want to game, at least get the Macbook Pro. You'll probably end up installing Windows on it anyways if you want to game, though, since OS X only has a handful of games (most of them being poorly-ported Windows games) while Windows has a dozens of titles come out every month.

Of course, if you want to game, you should get a Windows laptop which will be faster for the money. Hell, you can get a Windows laptop that's better for gaming than the Macbook Pro for about the same price as the regular Macbook.

i know they arent KNOWN for gaming, but i'd like to see what i could do with it. I just LOVE leopard 10.4, and i really hate vista. lol
Leopard is 10.5 ... Nothing wrong w/ Vista, just takes a little tweaking and a little getting used to ...
If you want to game, Vista is at least 100x better than OS X unless all you want to play is online poker and WoW ...

isn't alienware waaaay overpriced?
Umm ...
Apple Macbook Pro vs. Alienware Area 51 m15x (Bold = Win)

Price - $2499 vs $2299

CPU - 2.5 GHz C2D vs 2.5 GHz C2D

RAM - 2 GB PC2-5300 vs 2 GB PC2-5300

HDD - 250 GB 5400 RPM vs 250 GB 7200 RPM

Graphics - Geforce 8600M GT 512 MB vs Geforce 8700M GT 512 MB + Integrated Graphics

Screen - 15.4" 1440x900 LED backlit TN panel vs 15.4" 1920x1200 TN panel

Networking - GbLAN, Draft N, Bluetooth vs GbLAN, Draft N, Bluetooth

I/O - 2xUSB, Firewire 400, Firewire 800, ExpressCard 34, DVI, Audio vs. 3xUSB, Firewire 400, ExpressCard 34/54, HDMI, Audio, Card Reader

Size/Weight - 1" thick, 5.4 lbs vs 1.3" thick, 7 lbs

Looks like the Alienware costs $200 less and beats the Macbook Pro in gaming performance while offering up more features or you can upgrade to 4 GB of RAM for that $200 difference (or install it yourself for about $70). Also, you have the option of the 8800M GTX, faster CPUs (up to 2.8 GHz), etc. The MBP does have it beat by a large margin as far as size and weight go, though.

Alienware is less overpriced than Apple is ...

yea i'll be a captain in like 5 years. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

so since i'm gonna go with pc...where should I go? I've had friends tell me to buy something cheaper then go upgrade the shit out of it...suggestions?

The problem with gaming on a Mac is a very limited range of games are compatible with Macs and then Apple stores are the ONLY place I've ever seen them sold. There may be online retailers, but I've never looked. So if you are ok with playing the MOST popular titles and you like bending over the counter at an Apple store every time you want a new game (never on sale), then Mac it is.

PC is the only way to go for gaming.
