Which would you choose?

2 12" Alpine Type R 1242D subs or 2 12" Memphis 15-PR12S4 subs?

The Alpine subs would have 1000 rms watts total, while the Memphis subs would have 500 watts rms total.

Which would sound better and hit harder?

Two of those Memphis PR subs will surprise you in properly designed ported enclosure. I had a single 10" Power Reference ported in my 2007 Accord powered by a 16-PR2.75 and it provided enough low end thump to accent the factory installed system.

In your case I would start with the setup that costs the least amount of money, knowing that the subs can be sold to upgrade later on.

what kind of amp would be a good fit for either the alpine or memphis subs. I want as much power as possible without going over the stated rms watts of the subs: Memphis- 500 watts total and Alpine is 1000 watts total. I don't know much out amps, so any suggestions for amps to maximize the power of either set of subs will be appreciated.

Someone said that the type r would be a good fit for a hifonics bxi 1606d amp. True? Any better amps

One last question: How many channels do i need for the alpine? Memphis?

Look for a Class D amp that does 5-600 watts @ 2 ohms and 1,000 to 1,200 @ 1 ohm.

Hifonics is a good amp for the money paid, but there are tons of options out there. I would opt to spend a little more $$ and possibly go Sundown or Crossfire, but that is just me.

You need a mono amp. If you get a bigger amp than you need it won't hurt anything as long as you set the gain correctly.

Get The R's. It seem like almost every new guy entering car audio will say this.....The r's will hit but sound good doing it. SPL is overrated to me.
