Which side gets the CLD tiles applied to it?

I'm applying CLD tiles to the trunk area. Both the rear deck/parcel shelf and the metal arch that separates the trunk from the cabin can be reached from either side. Both are also covered, so appearance isn't an issue. I'm treating it primarily because of the subs in the trunk. Is it better to stick the tiles so they're facing the trunk? Would treating both sides of these problematic spots be a good idea, or is it the same as layering and this quickly affecting by diminishing returns?

Got a picture of the area in question? Having hard time picturing this. Also, are you treating for vibration or rattling? I deadened, but my rear dash that houses the rear speakers rattles - a lot of metal and components there. I've never done it, but for rattling I've seen people suggesting something called "decoupling."

It does not matter which side of the metal you apply it to if you can access both sides equally well. Putting CLD on both sides is similar to doubling layers, as there will be diminishing returns. Knock on the metal with your knuckles before you apply the CLD, and then knock on the area again. You will quickly hear when you have applied enough as it will change to a dull thud. Flat expansive areas are the main concern.
