Final made up my mind, and got off ebay a new hornet 564 2-way remote start alarm.

Over the weekend install power door locks, and got to test my soldering skills in the car on something easier... Wasn't 2 bad.

------

But which bypass module should I get for the passlock 2 system.?

GMBP seems like the easiest install. (but how does it attach to the odb scanner pin?)

Then I see a 555L, and a 555LW and I have no idea what the difference is, and why I should pick one over the other..

And finally. How do you strip & nicely splice wires in the ignination area?

Do you work with the live wires or disconnect the battery?

the 555L is the newer version, some wires in the harness were moved around for better operation.

you need a small hand held gauge dependant stripper and a razor blade. you use the circular clamp style stripper to put a small break in the wire coat and then use a sharp razor to slice length wise, then just pull it off and solder to it. (I usually poke a hole to split the wires and push through before wrapping and soldering).

I usually work life cause I am too impatient to have to reconnect the battery for testing, just make sure everything is out of the way when doing it. But you can cause damage if the circuit is activated while working on it.

Another word of caution from the wise, MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHT WIRES - the airbag wires are similarily encased going up the steering column.

Let me know if you need any help, I am not far away.

I think i'll be alright. Already have the tool (for cutting wire. And Airbags are in yellow. lol.

i've worked with electronic's and soldering before. Blowing a 400v cap. Now that will scare the crap out of you. lol

been there, I know you said you were into electronics (as am I) but working with airbags is a whole different animal.

The passkey wires are usually in orange, but have been in yellow in some cars.

That car the passlock ground is orange/black and the passlock wire shoudl be yellow I believe. If you trace them back they are pinned right next to each other. Be sure to solder them.

Good Luck, for stripping wires i love auto-strippers they do it all..
Make sure you replace them every month or so //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif or you will be cutting thru wires like crazy. At my shop we use strippers like these:

an a razor blade.

Just make two "rotations" on the wire about an inch or two apart... then take a razor blade and slice from rotation to rotation. Works great.

The airbag wires will be in a yellow sleeve. Passlock wires will not be.
