My 2 sony 15" subs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif started smoking the other day. I have an alpine amp powering them 1000rms. Is the amp two powerful or could it be because of the box? (box is a cheap prefab bandpass box)

i think it was top back.

I know sony subs **** but i didnt think the amp would be too powerful for them.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

PS i had the gain about half way up and no bass boost or anything like that up on my cd player either

i plan on getting a pioneer premier ts-w3004spl sub in a month or so when i have the money but until then these have to do so can anyone tell me is it the amp is too powerful, or the box, or a combination of both?

well since there in a bandpass box im gonna say tha box. hope you have them wired together because if there on seperate channels there going to fight. please tell me you dont have a 2 channel and running them in stereo... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

LOL

its a mono amp and i have it running at two ohms (subs are 4 ohms apeice)and i have the gain almost all the way down and i dont have any of the bass boost or the bass turned up on the hu either.

If this helps the subs hardly move at high volumes, and the subs are facing one another.

Did u wire them out of phase? U could've clipped it to death, but then again Sony subs cant really even take their RMS

i wired the positive and positive of both subs to the positive of the amp and i wired the negatives same way. i agree on the sony amps ******* but i was wondering if the box could have something to do with it. Maybe i should put each one in a 2cubic foot sealed box. maybe then they wont smoke the coils up

IMO its the box . . .

just get urself a round or square sub.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Sounds like too much power or clipped signal and incorrect wiring. You should have had one sub's wires switched (out of phase.) Since they were in phase they were fighting and canceling each other out. With the cone barely moving you get no cooling effect, which can easily lead to a burned VC.
