What's the most amount of power you've seen an 80 amp alternator take?

I've got an 01 Elantra. Everything stock, blah blah blahhhhhhhhhhhh and I'm not sure if I want to put my SE 15 + Tsunami DB1100 in the car (got it three days ago). The alternator in this car is 30 amps less than my other car, and my other car (93 grand am gt) struggled a little bit at high volume to keep up with the sub. Then again, that car had more than just electrical problems. But anyway, I'm not sure if my 80 amp alternator will keep up with the 2 ohm load the DB1100 would demand (650 rms load).

What do you folks think? EVERYTHING is stock, period, everything, and I plan to do ZERO upgrades to it. If the alternator won't handle it, the sub won't go in, simple as that. I've grown out of the upgrading sh*t, so if what I got will work, I'll use it. Otherwise, nah.

Eventually they'll be powered with an amp. Right now I'm pushing what I want to spend because I have a cat I'm bringing in the house and I'm unsure of what veterinary stuff it'll need.

Even off of head unit, will it at least be an upgrade from stock speakers for the time being? Also, the price good? I'll find an amp later on down the road...

Theoretical maximum power = 14.4*80*0.8 = 921.6 watts
You'll be fine ... assuming the alternator puts out close to maximum output @ low RPMs ...
Yeah, that sucker idles at 500 rpm, lol.

I'll probably end up turning the sub way down, as opposed to how I kept it in my other car. I really don't have any interest in hearing the kind of output I did before.

So anybody think the Type S 2ways I posted above will be a good buy for 60 bucks? The more I think about it, the more I doubt I'll get an amp for them... mostly because I had stocks in my 93 pontiac, and they were fine for me. I doubt in this 01 vehicle I drive now I'll expect anything more. Meh.

I took a look at these, here. They're 30 bucks more but they're 3 ways, and also made by Eclipse.

I know it's Circuit City but I'd rather just get these asap so I have them next week when I go to the beach. They're 30w rms, I'm sure they'd sound a bit better with an amp but, with that low of an RMS range and as low as my budget is anyway, maybe head unit power with the Eclipse's will be enough for me? Just post your opinion of what I should do... Eclipse or Alpine Type S..

Had a 97 eagle summit, 80 amp alternator after the mileage its had prolly dropped to 70 or so. Dimmed like a mofo with 2 RE Sx's and 1200d all 0 guage wire and 4 guage to the amps. Threw in a second battery solved that problem... Threw on my other 1200d to make it 2 1200d's and 2 RE SX's, Turned it up all the way and yea... My car shut off int he middle of the highway.....

Have a 97 blazer right now, 110 amp alt, after mileage prolly about 95/100. NO SECOND BATTERY, 1 1200d, 2 RE SX's. Always played my shit high volume (That's a no no lol) except at stop lights for prolly 2/3 months... Alternator just gave out yesterday had to go get another one... Best examples I can give you from what I've found out. GL with your shit

youve had bad luck.

I been playing off my stock AMP since jan 04, and thats when i got my first viper 1200.1d

the past 18 months i have been runnin 2 viper 1200.s and i play it loud alot.

Stock battery.

Stock alt

yeah it dims, but its been holdin up just fine.

My car has an 80 amp and I had an dei1100d hooked up. Did the Big 3, made no difference. It couldn't handle it. Now I got a bigger amp, but new alternator is coming as soon as I get all the money together.

Thanks for the replies. But what do you folks think about the 5.25's I picked out above? Should I go with the 60 dollar Alpine Type S 2 ways, or the 100 dollar Eclipse 3 ways? Probably running off of head unit power for a long time, but there's a possibility for an amp way down the road. Maybe.....
