what to look for when buying rca cables

The only real "gotta have" I would recommend would be twisted pair cables, like the Knukonceptz Karma SS. Twisted pair will help with noise rejection. Other than that, they're all pretty much the same.

 
rca's are rca's. just get something thats not the cheapest but don't waste your money on finding the "best" ones. if the install is done right then it won't matter.

 
I agree, RCAs are RCAs, though I would avoid the really cheap stuff (like walmart or surplus store specials). I think the best thing you can do to make them last a long time is to take care installing them, cover them in a lomb or Techflex (or at least tie-strap them in place to hold them down), and run them in a place where they won't be exposed to water or stepped on frequently.
