2 questions (for 100-500 Watt RMS Sub listed at bottom)
1) I'm looking at a 700 Watt @ 2 Ohm 350 @ 4 Ohm Amp for this (my sub is 4 Ohm and no getting around it). Is that gonna be underpowered? Chances are I won't crank it up much on a dialy but maybe sometimes. The Amp I'm looking at is probably under rated also JL Audio G Series G1700 Mono subwoofer amplifier — 700 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms at Crutchfield.com (And no I'm not paying those prices, I have another source. In fact I'm trying to save money which is why I'm trying to go with only what is needed).
I'm understanding from research that it's better for the speaker to drive it with a more powerful Amp because of the dangers of clipping, but if I set my gains correctly I'm assuming this won't be a problem, and I like Bass, but I'm not into competition or roof launching , just SQ. I'd think 350 would be more than enough then, and safe right?
2) I'm confused when the power handling says 100-500 RMS. Why not just say 500 RMS? What is the significance of the low number. Am I to assume that the sub doesn't operate efficiently at lower volumes? This doesn't make sense to me, yet. (As a side note I noticed this same enclosure is rated at 100-300 Watts RMS on some other sites but I believe this is a typo and they are confusing it with another similar model).
Here's the Sub ( I already have it so please, no need to suggest others)
