Eug, were you stating that corrections is a step below criminal justice?

I'm interested in being a probation or parole officer, and maybe one day being a cop.

I just want to get a feel with the probation/parole first before I make up my mind on being an officer.

probation/parole is a broken system. it would be difficult not to become discouraged/burnout/etc. unless you were prone towards being complacent.

As far as being an officer... its a very important job with awesome responsibility that gets no respect whatsoever and due to its connotations, reputation, and pay -- on average the worst of the candidates are attracted... the people who would benefit themselves and others (society) by taking the role are generally turned away. I really dont know where you fall into that equation, i'm only giving you a perspective.

Not to mention according to your avatar your carrier choice may cause you to become a hypocrite.

the good side of it however is that you'd be joining a carrier field with plenty of opportunities unlike the great majority of us who are putting ourselves into positions where our degree will be most useful of a suffix. its a bit of a saturated market, you see. with the economy steadily going down the shitter since the .com bubble burst years and years ago i'm not too optimistic.

I would like to try out being a probation officer, first. I really wouldn't mind going to someone's house/them coming to me to get insight on how to clean their act up.

I'd much rather to work like that than hard labor.
