It's a shift in T/S parameters.

People usually refer to power compression when talking about the heating up of the voice coils. After the coils heat up to a certain temperature, adding more power does nothing for output and the resistance gets larger and larger drawing less and less power.

There are other types of power compression as well due to BL decreasing by 70% and the change in compliance of the suspension.

I always understood that power compression is when adding more power to a woofer doesn't add any useful output, regardless of why.
