What is nominal?

I was looking at the 3004spl and it says it has a nominal power handling of 1000 watts. What is that ? Is it like rms or what. Thanks for any help.

If you are talking about the pioneer premier then i think that 1000 watts is the rms rating. Nice choice of sub. Havent seen anyone running that yet around here.
