My guess is a ground loop isolator or engine noise suppressor of some sort.

I have taken my HU out a few times for RCAs etc... but I was not the one that installed it so when I this thing the first few times I didnt give it much thought or care, it sounded fine and thats all that I cared about. Now I want to reground my HU and this is in my way. It is t-tapped into the ground (black wire) and is wired in line with the constant 12v (red and green wires)

Any ideas?

It's an engine noise suppressor.

Just reground both the suppressor and your headunit.

It's basically a low pass filter to remove the higher frequency noise.

Not a burb supa, its a 2500 standard cab! ; )

I am cleaning it up right now and may put it back it, afterall its only between hu and power its not going to do anything to output signal like an alt whine supressor

technically, it's an L-C network...the gray cylinder being the cap, and the copper donut being the torodial inductor...

isn't required.

To explain supa's odd comment (or seemingly odd) I was thinking about it, I edited my post above about the same time supa posted. I was questioning why it was inline the constant 12v rather than the second 12v which is hooked to ACC. The ACC 12 just hits a relay in the HU and the power is pulled off the constant 12 so it does make sense.
