Pretty cool picture. Where in AL is that?

Huntsville, Al. Marshall Space Flight Center. That sight is now a historical site along with a couple other old test stands. The one I showed a picture isn't my fav though. The static test stand is. It was used to test rocket engines back in the day. It's embedded 40 feet in the ground, is about ~240 ft tall and can "...accommodate engines with thrust levels up to 3.0 million pounds". //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif It has a sort of "ramp" at the bottom where gases & flames will blow out the back instead of straight down.

FWIW, there will be no more shuttle launches after 2010. They're replacing the shuttle with a new design called Ares I.

Too bad NASA just sent a shuttle up and brought it back in December with out a hitch....

My company has a subsidiary in Athens (right outside Huntsville). I've been to that museum. Lots of cool stuff. An SR-71, and a Saturn V on it's side are pretty awesome! :thup:

thats still not a great ratio.

Though it isnt a good ratio, and it's horrible for any of our astronauts to loose their lives, it isnt exactly a cake walk to get one of thoes up there and back. I have big respect for thoes who design them and even more for thoes who fly them.
