What do installers make on average? With what certifications and expirience?

where do you work now? For private shops, it ALLL depends on experience and your quality of work. A shitty shop would pay you a ton if you did good work, and had a lot of knowledge.

Somone like me..I started out a 2 custom private shops working part time for each making 9 an hour (ouch)...after a few months we both decided it would be better for me to get some more basic experience before continuing there. So I went to Best Buy, where they gave me 10.50/hr because i was certified...which really doesnt mean shit..because 75% of pepole who have experience and arent certified know/knew more than me a few months back.

Private shops are great if you can stick with them and do good work... the opportunity for advancement is much greater. At the same time, you could get put out of business easily. You never know until you've worked at the shop for a while which direction its headed.

Best buy/circuit city is a better bet for most people, you'll get paid more to do the simple stuff then you would at a privately owned shop. Now, if you can fancy fiberglass and things like that, a privately owned place is the way to go, just a matter of finding the right one.
