what do 8's compare to?

hey, just wonderin how the upper end 8" subs compare to bigger subs.......like the re8's, koda's, tangband, lanzar, comp 8's, etc, etc.....will 1 re8 compare to say a comp 12? i know it wont hit as low, and it will prolly sound better, but will it be as loud?is 1 8 enough to be heard comin?i've heard of people makin 2 8's sound like 15's, how is this done?i no its all in the install, but how good of a box does it take to do this??i no theres a lot of questions here, and all help is greatly appreciated...........tia

potential SPL, especially in a sealed box, is dependent on the displacement of a sub which is found by the equation:

[surface area of the cone]*[xmax]

Only the biggest and best 8" subs will be able to outdisplace any given 12" sub on the market, and that 12" would have to have a pretty crappy xmax. A good 12" will ALWAYS outdisplace a good 8". A great 8" may be able to outdisplace a crappy 12".
