what causes this?

i would say the box is the wrong size. my friend had the same thing with his 12 w3v2 in a box that was too small he blew the dust cap off it so i had to re glue it back on and build him the correct size box and now it is low monster //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I adjusted the amp and the sub doesnt pop anymore but inotice sometimes when i turn the bass and volume up the sub will hit then stop and not pickup the bass notes. What could cause this for settings on the jl 500/1 i have the bass boost at 13 is that to much. thanks for any help/

Bass boost should be left to 0.

Then follow the gain setting tutorial stickied in the amplifier section for setting your gain.

Also, is your enclosure sealed or ported?
